Mary Butler

With a lifetime commitment to educational excellence, Mary Butler began her professional career as an owner and Director of Education for Sylvan Learning Centres located in both the United States and Canada. After thirteen years of continual growth and success, she left Sylvan to complete her master's degree in education and to pursue opportunities with KSI Research International, Inc. and then as a Vice-President at KSI's sister company, The Learning Bar (TLB).

From 2011 to 2016, she was NBCC's first Vice-President of College and Community Development where she led the creation and growth of several award-winning elements of the NBCC Advantage including the Robertson Institute for Community Leadership, entrepreneurship programs, applied research and innovation, and the Alumni Association. She also led the re-branding of the College in its new life as an arms-length, modern public college.

Ms. Butler served as NBCC's Vice-President Academic and Research from 2016 - 2019. In this role, she initiated the transformation of NBCC's long-standing academic model to better meet the needs of students, the labour market and communities. This transformation is a driving force towards the achievement of NBCC's bold goal to grow the annual student population so that by 2022 the College will welcome over 11,000 learners.

She is deeply engaged in her community - serving on numerous boards and committees at the local, regional and national level, including as past Chair of the Board of the Stan Cassidy Foundation and as a long-time volunteer with the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Unit.
